Aaron Lyle

Aaron Lyle (born November 17, 1759 in Mount Bethel , Northampton County , Province of Pennsylvania , †  September 24, 1825 in Cross Creek , Pennsylvania ) was a British- American politician . Between 1809 and 1817 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Aaron Lyle attended public schools in his home country and then worked in agriculture. He also took part in the War of Independence . Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson in the late 1790s . Between 1797 and 1801 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania ; from 1802 to 1804 he was a member of the State Senate . He was then from 1806 to 1806 a member of the Washington County County Council .

In the 1808 congressional elections , Lyle was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the tenth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded William Hoge on March 4, 1809 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1817 . Since 1813 he represented the twelfth district of his state there.

After serving in the US House of Representatives, Aaron Lyle returned to farming. From 1802 to 1822 he was also the curator of Jefferson College . He died in Cross Creek on September 24, 1825.
