William F. Goodling

William Franklin "Bill" Goodling (born December 5, 1927 in Loganville , York County , Pennsylvania , † September 17, 2017 in York , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1975 and 2001 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Goodling is the son of Congressman George Atlee Goodling (1896–1982). He attended William Penn High School in York until 1945 . Between 1946 and 1948 he served in the United States Army . He then studied to 1953 at the University of Maryland . This was followed by other courses at Western Maryland College (until 1957) and Pennsylvania State University (until 1963). As a result, he held various teaching positions throughout Pennsylvania. Politically, like his father, he joined the Republican Party .

In the 1974 congressional election , Goodling was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 19th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded his father on January 3, 1975. After twelve re-elections, he was able to complete a total of 13 legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 2001 . From 1995 to 1997 he was chairman of the Committee on Economic and Educational Opportunities ; from 1997 to 2001 he headed the Committee on Education and Labor . In 2000 he renounced another candidacy.

Most recently, William Goodling was Chairman of the Board of the Goodling Institute for Research in Family Literacy .
