Todd Russell Platts (born March 5, 1962 in York , Pennsylvania ) is an American Republican politician . From 2001 to 2013 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Todd Platts attended York Suburban High School until 1980 and then Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania until 1984 . He then studied law at the Law School of Pepperdine University in Malibu ( California ) until 1991 . Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1992 and 2000 he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives .

In the 2000 congressional election , Platts was elected to the US House of Representatives in the 19th constituency of Pennsylvania, where he succeeded William F. Goodling on January 3, 2001 . After five re-elections, he announced in January 2012 that he would no longer stand in the 2012 election and left parliament on January 3, 2013. He endorsed many, but not all, of the activities of President George W. Bush's administration . Among other things, he advocated the Iraq war . Platts was a member of the Armed Services Committee , the Committee on Education and Labor and the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform , and in a total of six subcommittees. He was also a member of the Congressional Arts Caucus .
