Thomas Pfüller (sports official)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thomas Pfüller (born June 17, 1949 in Stollberg , Saxony ) is a German sports official and a former biathlete who participated in state-prescribed doping in competitive GDR sports .

Professional background

Thomas Pfüller's athletic career stretched from 1968 to 1971, during which he worked as a biathlete in the GDR performance center in Zinnwald. As an athlete from Dynamo Zinnwald , he won the bronze medal with the relay at the GDR championships in 1971. He then completed a distance learning course at the German University for Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig. In 1978 he took over the post of deputy general secretary of the German Skierverband der DDR and later (1984) also the function of the trainer of the male cross-country skiers.

Pfüller is one of the few functionaries in the GDR who, after the reunification of the unified German Ski Association (DSV), continuously rose to the highest full-time positions in GDR competitive sports despite being included in the state-prescribed compulsory doping : first to technical director and Nordic sports director, then to General Secretary and thus together with Hubert Schwarz to the management of DSV Leistungssport GmbH. Numerous GDR trainers who were burdened by the Stasi and doping received a position in the Federal Republic of Germany through his protection.

He was elected IBU Vice President Marketing at the Congress of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) in St. Petersburg in October 2010. Within the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) he was a member of the Advisory Board for Competitive Sport Development.
