Thomas Prescher with a set of three wristwatches with a tourbillon

Thomas Prescher (born March 14, 1966 in Lingen (Ems) ) is a German watchmaker and inventor of the triple-axis tourbillon for wristwatches .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1985, Prescher completed a six-year officer career in the Navy. After completing an apprenticeship at IWC as a watchmaker microelectronics technician in 1994, he worked as a service technician at Audemars Piguet . During this time he passed the German master watchmaker examination at the Hessian watchmaking school . From 1997 he worked for Gübelin for three years and was trained as a rhabilleur . From 2000 until 2002 he worked as production manager at Blancpain . In 2003 he founded the company Thomas Prescher Uhren GmbH in Twann , which offered a double-axis tourbillon as a wristwatch (synonymous with Torkel tourbillon ). This tourbillon was based on a patent from Anthony G. Randall in 1978 and was first realized by watchmaker Richard Good at Stockuhren in 1978. In 2003 Prescher was accepted into the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants . At Baselworld 2004 he presented the first triple-axis tourbillon . This is a wristwatch in which the escapement and balance wheel rotate three-dimensionally to reduce positional errors in the rate accuracy .

On November 25, 2014, bankruptcy proceedings were opened against Hand Made Watches GmbH, which were discontinued on December 23, 2014 due to a lack of assets. On May 28, 2015, the company was officially deleted. Prescher Holding GmbH and Thomas Prescher Services GmbH continue to exist.
