Thomas Remengesau, Sr. ( November 28, 1929 - August 3, 2019 ) was a Palauan politician .

After the assassination of the Palauian head of state Haruo Remeliik in 1985, Thomas Ongelibel Remengesau held the office of head of state for three days until he resigned in favor of his successor Lazarus Saliis . After his suicide in October 1988 Remengesau took over the office again, this time until 1989. Now Ngiratkel Etpison inherited him . It should be noted that he was only a provisional head of state in both terms. Otherwise he held the office of Vice President from 1985 to 1988 and from 1993 to 2001.

Remengesau had several children, including Tommy Remengesau , the head of state of Palau from 2001 to 2009 and again since 2013. He did not head the office on an interim basis, but was elected in 2001 and confirmed in his office four years later.
