Haruo Remeliik
Haruo Remeliik ( June 1, 1933 , † June 30, 1985 ) was a Palaui politician with Japanese roots.
On May 1, 1970, Remeliik was sworn in as Deputy District Administrator for Palau . Almost eleven years later, on March 2, 1981, Remeliik was appointed the first head of state of the island state of Palau. After he was murdered on June 30, 1985, Thomas Remengesau Sr. succeeded him provisionally in his office until Lazarus Salii became the new head of state of Palau through an election victory in September of the same year.
Remeliik was buried in Kloulklubed in his home state of Peleliu .
Honors
The fisheries protection boat Remeliik (boat) was named after him.
