Thomas Riesenweber

Thomas Riesenweber (born October 31, 1975 in Cologne-Porz ) is a German classical philologist .

Life

Riesenweber studied Latin , Greek and history for teaching at grammar schools ( secondary level II / I) at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn from 1996 to 2002 . In 2001 he passed the state examination in Latin and history and in 2002 the additional examination in Greek. From 2002 to 2004 he held teaching positions for Latin courses at the University of Bonn. From 2003 to 2004 he was an academic visitor at Corpus Christi College in Oxford, then from 2004 to 2007 he was a lecturer for special tasks (50%) at the Institute for Classical Classical Studies at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg . On July 5, 2006, he received his doctorate from the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. phil. PhD . In the 2006/2007 winter semester he was assistant (50%) at the chair for Latin Philology at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg; in the summer semester 2007 he was a research assistant (50%) at the chair for Greek Philology at the University of Leipzig . From 2007 to 2015 he was a research assistant (100%) at the Chair of Latin Philology at the University of Bonn. From the winter semester 2010 to the winter semester 2011 he was visiting scholar at the University of Leiden . On November 21, 2012, he received his habilitation in Classical Philology . After acting as professor at the Universities of Cologne , Bonn, Münster and Leipzig as well as a guest stay at the Center Jean Pépin (CNRS) in Paris with Tiziano Dorandi , he was appointed professor for Classical Philology / Latin at the University of Wuppertal in March 2019 ; he had already represented the chair since April 2017.

His main research interests are the Roman elegy of love ( Properz ) and rhetoric , especially Gaius Marius Victorinus , Cicero 's De inventione and the Rhetorica ad Herennium , which is erroneously attributed to Cicero , especially the history of tradition and textual criticism .
