Thomas Scheidtweiler
Thomas Scheidtweiler (born July 13, 1964 in Zülpich ) is a German agricultural engineer and science manager. Since 2014 he has been general secretary of the Cusanuswerk bishopric for gifted students .
Life
After graduating from high school (1983), Scheidtweiler first completed an agricultural apprenticeship (1983–1985) and then from 1985 to 1990 studied agricultural sciences at the University of Bonn . From 1990 to 1994 Scheidtweiler was the head of an agricultural trade center in Tanzania . During his time as coordinator of the master’s course ARTS (M.Sc. in Agricultural Science and Resource Management in the Tropics and Subtropics) at the University of Bonn (1994–1995) Scheidtweiler began a doctoral project in agricultural engineering, which he completed in 1996. Scheidtweiler received a scholarship from the Cusanuswerk during his studies and doctoral studies . From 1995 to 2007 Scheidtweiler worked as head of the Africa department at KAAD ( Catholic Academic Foreign Nationals Service ), then in 2007/2008 at the International Office of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as coordinator of the policy dialogue on sustainability research (D4S) with Brazil , Russia , India , China and South Africa . In 2008 he took up the position of Head of Division for Africa and the Middle East at the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation . In 2014 he moved to the Cusanuswerk as general secretary.
Scheidtweiler is married and has two grown daughters. He lives in Mechernich . There he is a member of the board of a foundation for the preservation of the Brother Klaus field chapel designed by Peter Zumthor , which was built by the Scheidtweiler family.
Functions / Awards
Scheidtweiler worked as an international election observer for the EU and the UN . In July 2016 Scheidtweiler was elected to the Central Committee of German Catholics as a representative for the Cusanuswerk .
