Thomas Schneider (rower)

Thomas Schneider (born March 30, 1932 ) is a former German rower .

Thomas Schneider started for the Giessen Rowing Society in 1877 , and in 1958 he switched to the Berlin Rowing Club . In 1953, Schneider took second place behind Günter Schütt from Saarbrücken at the German championships in the single . Together with Ferdinand Nennstiel, Schneider also took second place in the double scull in 1953 . In 1954 Schneider competed in a double scull with Gerhard Häge from Konstanz, he won the title at both the German championships and the European championships . 1955 lost Schneider and Häge at the German championships against the Ratzeburg Manfred Rulffs and Klaus von Fersen . In 1956 Kurt Hipper from Constance moved to Schneider in the double scull. The two won the title at the German championships, at the European championships the two received the silver medal behind Yuri Tjukalow and Alexander Berkutow from the Soviet Union. The Soviet double scull also won the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 , with Schneider and Hipper taking fourth place behind the boats from the United States and Australia.

From 1957 to 1959 Thomas Schneider won three more German championship titles in double sculls together with Friedrich-Wilhelm Sidow , from 1958 both competed for the Berlin Rowing Club. At the European Championships in 1957 Schneider and Sidow received the silver medal behind Tjukalow and Berkutow. In 1958 Tjukalow and Berkutow won ahead of the French René Duhamel and Bernard Monnereau , followed by Schneider and Sidow in third place.
