Thomas Schuler (historian)

Thomas Schuler (born July 31, 1944 in Ravensburg ) is a German historian. From 1992 to 2004 he was director of the Schloßbergmuseum Chemnitz .

After studying history, church history, art history and theology at the Collegio Sant'Anselmo in Rome, at the University of Münster and the University of Tübingen , Schuler worked as a research assistant at Bielefeld University from 1975 to 1986 . There he received his doctorate in 1979 on the topic of unequal hospitality - the Carolingian Benedictine monastery, its guests and the Christian monastic norm . He then took over the management of the Tübingen City Museum in 1986 , before moving to Chemnitz in 1992 , where he became director of the Schlossberg Museum . He played a key role in the redesign of both houses. Since 2004 he has been working as a freelance museum advisor and lecturer. He is the author and editor of various monographs, exhibition catalogs and essays.

Among other things, he is chairman of the Workers' Welfare Organization in Chemnitz and the surrounding area and a member of the international crisis team of the International Council of Museums .
