Thomas Schüler (* 1948 in Vienna ; † August 9, 2015 ) was an Austrian actor , radio play speaker and voice actor .

Life

Thomas Schüler attended the Krauss drama school in Vienna from 1968 to 1970 . After completing his acting training, he received a beginner's contract as an apprentice at the Theater in der Josefstadt . From 1970 to 1972 he was trained at a Cascadeur school in Rome . In some Italian westerns he worked as a stuntman. Numerous theater engagements as an actor and director followed, u. a. in the 1970s at the Stadttheater Heilbronn , and participation in TV productions.

During his permanent engagement at the Heilbronn Theater, Schüler received the offer from the then Bad Segeberg artistic director Harry Walther to take over the role of Apache chief "Winnetou" at the Karl May Festival in Bad Segeberg as successor to Klaus-Hagen Latwesen .

In the years 1976–1980, Schüler appeared as "Winnetou", in the productions of 1976 ("Winnetou I") with Raimund Harmstorf as Santer, 1977 ("The Black Mustang"), 1979 ("Old Firehand") and 1980 ( "In the valley of death"). In the 1978 season he took on the role of the villain Kiamil in the Segeberg Orient production " Durchs Wilde Kurdistan ". His stage partners in Bad Segeberg included Harmstorf u. a. Manfred Reddemann , who mostly played Schüler's opponent, Chris Howland , Claus Wilcke , Gerhart Lippert and Charles Elkins .

Schüler was the only actor in "Winnetou", who in Bad Segeberg played the role in all performances with a bare upper body; this became Schüler's trademark at the Karl May Festival in Bad Segeberg.

In the mid-1990s, Thomas Schüler played in a Karl May production by the Saxony State Theaters on the Rathen Rock Stage . In addition to his work as an actor, he ran a film rights agency in the United States until 1997 . Since 2007 he has worked seasonally as a show rider and presenter in the leisure and western town of Pullman City in Eging am See .

In 2010 he took part in the Karl May Festival on the Gföhlerwald open-air stage in Gföhl . Under the direction of Friedrich Grud he played the rogue role of “Dr. Jonathan Hartley ”in the Karl May production Der Schatz im Silbersee .

Student also worked regularly as a voice actor . He spoke about 80 synchronous roles. "Matto-Sih" was the voice actor in the animated series Winnetoons . In the RTL cartoon series Ottifanten (1993) he spoke the role of "Otto". As a radio play speaker , Schüler took on various roles in the radio play series Ein Fall für TKKG , Die drei ??? , Knight Rider and Playmobil, Mobilux & Patrick .

Student was at times in a relationship with the actress Tanja Schumann ; he was also her professional manager. He died on the night of August 8th to August 9th, 2015 at the age of 67 after a serious illness.
