Jim Byrnes (* 22. September 1948 in St. Louis , Missouri as James Thomas Kevin Byrnes ) is an American actor and blues musician.

Life

Byrnes grew up in St. Louis , where he learned to play the piano at the age of five and the blues guitar at thirteen. He studied theology and worked as a professional shepherd before trying his hand at acting . On February 26, 1972, he lost both legs in a serious car accident. In the mid-1970s, Byrnes moved to Vancouver , where he made his living with music and doing odd jobs. In 1981 he formed a band that later became a major part of the local music scene.

Fifteen years to the day after his accident, he began filming Wiseguy , a CBS series that was shown in Germany under the title Fight Against the Mafia . The wheelchair-bound policeman Daniel Burroughs was Byrne's first major role; Filming lasted until 1990. As a result, Byrnes had guest roles in various series, such as The Police Chief , The Hitchhiker , Neon Rider , Supernatural , Danger Bay , Hat Squad , Sanctuary - Guardians of the Creatures and Outer Limits - The Unknown Dimension . He has also appeared in television films such as Omen IV: The Awakening , I Want My Children Back! , Firestorm Company , Serving in Silence: The Colonel Margarethe Cammermeyer Story and Dream Man on.

From 1993 to 1998 he played a supporting role in the television series Highlander as Joe Dawson. He played the same role in 2007 in the film Highlander - The Source of Immortality . He also played the role of Joe Dawson in an episode in the spin-off Raven - The Immortals .

In addition to acting, music is a driving force in Byrne's life. His CD That River is a collection of songs that he describes as "a reflection of his respect for the blues, R&B, soul, jazz, all rolled into one". It contains a song that was made while filming Highlander in Paris. For this CD he received a Juno Award for the best blues / gospel recording.

His CD St. Louis Times was released in April 2014 .

Byrnes was recently inducted into the British Columbia Entertainment Hall of Fame.
