Vinton Freedley

Vinton Freedley (born November 5, 1891 in Philadelphia , † June 5, 1969 in New York City ) was an American theater producer .

Vinton Freedley attended Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania . He began his theater career as an actor. From 1923 he worked with Alexander A. Aarons . Together they produced 1924 to 1930 six Gershwin - musicals , including Lady, Be Good , Oh, Kay! , Funny Face and Girl Crazy . Another Broadway hit was the Henderson , Brown and DeSylva -Musical Hold Everything! from 1928. Freedley and Aarons had the Alvin Theater (now the Neil Simon Theater) built, which opened in 1927. Because of the global economic crisis and some flops, especially Gershwin's Pardon My English they bankrottierten 1933.
Aaron then sat down to rest. Freedley produced the Cole Porter musicals Anything Goes , Red, Hot and Blue in the 1930s and 40s ! , Leave It to Me! and Let's Face It , as well as the Vernon Duke musical Cabin in the Sky .
Freedley was President of the Episcopal Actors 'Guild (1942–1968) and the Actors' Fund of America (1959–1969).
