Positions

Thomas Sitte speaks out against organized or business-like aiding and abetting in suicide . He advocates other solutions on the way to the end of life. His experience shows him that most people don't want to die, they just don't want to suffer. “If you take this fear away from them, they usually don't ask for euthanasia,” says custom. Dying care is not euthanasia , instead palliative care must be strengthened and expanded. According to this, palliative care achieves “that the sick not only die better, but can also live longer and better if they are accompanied excellently by real, committed experts”. Sitte represented this position in the German Bundestag, among others. In his function as chairman of the board of the German Palliative Foundation , Sitte was invited as an expert to the Bundestag session in September 2015, which dealt with the drafts for the law on the criminal liability of commercial promotion of suicide. During the public hearing , he also called for more information about the possibilities of palliative medicine - similar to the campaigns for more willingness to donate organs - "for what is possible, what is allowed and what a patient can absolutely demand."

Because of his commitment, Sitte has been a member of the Pal-Life expert group of the Pontifical Academy for Life, which he himself helped to initiate, in order to spread the possibilities of hospice-palliative care worldwide since 2016.
