Thomas Siwe

Thomas Siwe (born February 14, 1935 ) is an American percussionist and music teacher .

Siwe studied at the University of Illinois , where he received his master's and bachelor's degrees. He has performed as a soloist and ensemble musician with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra , the Boston Pops Orchestra , the University of Chicago Contemporary Chamber Players and the Harry Partch Ensemble and was a member of the Chicago Lyric Opera , the Sinfonia da Camera and the US Marine Band von Camp Pendleton . He was also President of the Percussion Arts Society from 1984 to 1986 .

He taught at Northwestern University , then at the University of Wisconsin and Northern Illinois University . From 1969 to 1999 he headed the percussion department at the University of Illinois. He published the textbooks Percussion: A Course of Study for the Future Band and Orchestra Director and Latin Sextet (for ensemble playing) as well as 10 Hall of Fame Snare Drum Solos . In 2002 the album Historic Works for Percussion Ensemble was released with recordings under Siwes' direction.
