Thomas Tofield
Thomas Tofield (born December 18, 1730 in Wilsic Hall near Doncaster , † 1779 ) was an English botanist and hydraulic engineer .
Live and act
After studying in Cambridge , he returned home and studied the local flora intensively. In this context he got in touch with William Hudson , who was working on a British flora ( Flora Anglica (1762)) in the 1750s , which was already based on the nomenclature of Carl von Linné . The second edition of the Flora (1778) also contained many data from Tofield. However, his actual job was a hydraulic engineer.
Honors
The genus Tofieldia ( corn lilies ) from the Tofieldiaceae family was named after him.
