from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thomas Wagner (born October 17, 1943 in Zurich ) is a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

From 1969 to 1978 he was a member of the municipal council and, from 1978, the city council of Zurich. From 1982 to 1990 he was mayor . After that, Wagner was only re-elected as a city councilor and was first head of the School and Sports Department and finally, until his resignation in 2002, head of the Department of Industrial Companies.

The so-called “Lex Wagner” (Art. 48 Paragraph 2) of the municipal municipal code, which has forbidden Zurich city councils from being a member of a federal council since 1988, goes back to Thomas Wagner . This prevented Thomas Wagner's request to seek an office as a national councilor in addition to the office of city council .

Wagner studied law and medicine and also wrote two dissertations in each of the subjects.

Wagner was named permanent guest of honor at the Dies academicus 2017 of the University of Zurich .
