Thomas Weigend

Thomas Weigend (* 1949 in Dresden ) is a German legal scholar .

After his first state examination in law , Weigend first became a speaker at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law in Freiburg im Breisgau .

He received his doctorate in 1977 and completed his habilitation in 1985 with Hans-Heinrich Jescheck in Freiburg i. Br. In 1986 he accepted a call to the University of Cologne , where he held the chair for criminal law , criminal procedure law , comparative criminal law and criminology and headed the institute for foreign and international criminal law until his retirement in 2016 . These areas also represent his research and publication focus. From 2009 to 2011 he was dean of the law faculty at the University of Cologne.

Weigend is co-editor of the journal for the entire criminal law science (ZStW). Until 2015 he was head of the section on comparative criminal law in the Society for Comparative Law . After Weigend had negatively reviewed a book by the lawyer Karin Calvo-Goller and the editor of Global Law Books Joseph HH Weiler refused to remove the review from his website, Calvo-Goller initiated criminal proceedings against Weiler in France and stayed with it but unsuccessful.
