Thomas Wilkening

Thomas Wilkening (born September 22, 1956 in Potsdam-Babelsberg ; † March 4, 2005 at Vitte (Hiddensee Island) ) was a German television producer . He was married and had two children.

As the son of the longtime technical director of DEFA , Albert Wilkening (1909–1990), Thomas Wilkening came to film at an early age. He graduated with a doctorate from the University of Film and Television Potsdam . After the political change in the GDR in autumn 1989, Wilkening and colleagues founded the Thomas Wilkening Filmgesellschaft mbH in Potsdam . This company produced a number of well-known films. These included Herzsprung (1992) with Günter Lamprecht and Gripsholm (1999) with Ulrich Noethen and Heike Makatsch . He achieved particular fame through the productions in the television series Polizeiruf 110 . His preferred screenwriter was Stefan Kolditz , who wrote six films for him. They had known each other since childhood. His last project was the movie with the working title I am a murderer with Katrin Saß .

On the night of March 4, 2005, Wilkening got lost in the dark on the way from Vitte to Neuendorf on the Baltic Sea island of Hiddensee , where his father Albert Wilkening, the former head of the GDR film company Defa, owned a summer house and one broke in the ice frozen pond. Although he was able to inform the fire brigade by mobile phone around 2 a.m., he was unable to give any precise information about the location of the accident. So the initiated rescue operation was unsuccessful. Wilkening was found dead around 8 a.m.
