Thomas William Drumm (born July 12, 1871 in County Westmeath , Ireland , † October 24, 1933 in Des Moines , Iowa ) was an American Roman Catholic clergyman. Drumm was bishop of the Des Moines diocese from 1919 until his death .

Life

Thomas William Drumm, son of Thomas and Mary Drumm, came to the United States in 1888 at the age of 17. Here the family settled in Iowa, where Drumm was a graduate of St. Joseph's College in Dubuque, Iowa . After college, Drumm went to Canada , where he studied for the priesthood at the Grand Séminaire de Montréal in Montreal . In Montreal, he was on 21 December 1901 by incumbent Archbishop Paul Bruchesi for ordained priests .

After his ordination, Drumm went to Washington, DC , where he completed his theological studies at the Catholic University . In 1915 he became chaplain of St. Patrick's Church in Cedar Rapids .

On March 28, 1919, Pope Benedict XV. appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Des Moines. He was ordained bishop on May 21, 1919 Archbishop John Joseph Keane and his co-consecrators, Bishops James Davis and Edmond Heelan . Little is known about his episcopate; In 1924 he was the first US bishop to preach in the relatively new medium of radio . He could be heard once a month on WHO .

Thomas William Drumm was a bishop for 14 years. He died in October 1933 at the age of 62.
