Edmond Heelan

Edmond Heelan (born February 4, 1868 in Knockaney , County Limerick , Ireland , † September 20, 1948 in Sioux City , Iowa , USA ) was Bishop of Sioux City .

Life

Edmond Heelan studied Philosophy and Catholic Theology at All Hallows College , Dublin . He received on 24 June 1890, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

Heelan was curate from 1890 to 1893 and from 1893 to 1897 rector of St. Raphael's Cathedral in Dubuque . In 1897 he became pastor of the Sacred Heart Church at Fort Dodge .

On December 21, 1918, Pope Benedict XV appointed him . the titular bishop of Jerash and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in Sioux City. The Archbishop of Dubuque , James John Keane , donated him episcopal ordination on April 8, 1919 ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Davenport , James Joseph Davis , and the Bishop of Cheyenne , Patrick Aloysius Alphonsus McGovern . As auxiliary bishop, Edmond Heelan was rector of the Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City.

On March 8, 1920 Benedict XV appointed him. to the Bishop of Sioux City.
