Joseph Maximilian Mueller (born December 1, 1894 in St. Louis , Missouri , USA ; † August 9, 1981 in Sioux City , Iowa , USA ) was Bishop of Sioux City .

Life

Maximilian Mueller attended the Saints Peter and Paul School in St. Louis. Then Mueller studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus , Ohio . He received on 14 June 1919, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

Maximilian Mueller then worked as a curate in Carlyle , Mount Carmel , East St. Louis and Belleville . From 1926 to 1930 he was pastor of the parish of Blessed Sacrament Parish . In 1930 Mueller became rector of St. Peter's Cathedral in Belleville. In 1939 he was given the honorary title of papal house prelate .

On August 20, 1947, Pope Pius XII appointed him . the titular bishop of Sinda and ordered him to Coadjutor Bishop of Sioux City. The Apostolic Delegate in the United States, Archbishop Amleto Giovanni Cicognani , ordained him episcopal on October 16 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Peoria , Joseph Henry Leo Schlarman , and the Bishop of Grand Island , Edward Joseph Hunkeler .

On September 20, 1948, Maximilian Mueller succeeded the late Edmond Heelan as Bishop of Sioux City. Pope Paul VI accepted on October 15, 1970 Maximilian Mueller's resignation due to reasons of age and appointed him titular bishop of Simitthu . On January 13, 1971 Mueller renounced the titular bishopric Simitthu.

Maximilian Mueller participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council .
