Frank Henry Greteman (born December 25, 1907 in Willey , Iowa , USA , † March 21, 1987 in Sioux City ) was Bishop of Sioux City .

Life

Frank Henry Greteman received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loras College in Dubuque in 1929 . Greteman continued his studies at the Pontifical North American College in Rome . He received the sacrament of ordination for the Diocese of Sioux City on December 8, 1932 . In 1933 Frank Henry Greteman obtained a degree in Catholic theology .

He was then until 1935 Curate of St. Augustine Church in Spokane , Washington . In 1937 Frank Henry Greteman graduated from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC with a degree in canon law . In 1937 he became pastor at Assumption Church in Merrill . Greteman was pastor of St. Michael parish in Sioux City from 1941 to 1950, pastor of Saints Peter and Paul parish in Carroll from 1950 to 1964, and pastor of Holy Spirit parish in Carroll from 1964 to 1965 . 1953 was him by Pope Pius XII. awarded the honorary title of Pontifical House Prelate . In 1965 Frank Henry Greteman became Vicar General of the Diocese of Sioux City.

On April 14, 1965, Pope Paul VI appointed him . the titular bishop of Vissalsa and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in Sioux City. The Apostolic Delegate in the United States, Archbishop Egidio Vagnozzi , ordained him episcopal on May 26 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Dubuque , James Joseph Byrne , and the Bishop of Sioux City, Maximilian Mueller .

Paul VI appointed him on October 15, 1970. to the Bishop of Sioux City. On August 17, 1983, Pope John Paul II accepted the resignation from Frank Henry Greteman for reasons of age.

Frank Henry Greteman attended the fourth session of the Second Vatican Council .
