Thomas auf der Himmelsleiter is a German comedy by Maximilian Vitus .

The heavily indebted shoemaker Thomas lives in a village with his journeyman Wastl and his housekeeper Kuni. He goes to Munich to sell his writing. Money and wallet are stolen from him. Shortly thereafter, he is mistakenly believed to be dead because the thief had an accident with his wallet. Since the bailiff is at the door, he doesn't want to change anything about this situation. Because of his obituary notice, his childhood sweetheart Regina comes to him.
