Thomas von Přelouč (also Thomas von Przelautsch ; Czech Tůma Přeloučský , also Tomáš Přeloučský ; Latin Thomas Praelaucius ; * around 1435 in Přelouč ; †  23 February 1518 in Přerov ) was one of the first priests of the Unity of the Bohemian Brothers and from 1500 to his bishop's death in 1518 .

Life

Thomas von Přelouč learned the tailoring trade. He was a supporter of the Bohemian Brothers and was elected on March 26, 1467 at the Brothers Synod in Lhotka near Reichenau in a lottery procedure together with the farmer's son Matthias von Kunwald and the miller Elias von Křenowitz († 1503) as the priest of the Brethren. As it was decided at the synod, among other things, that the three elected should also be ordained priests, the Brotherhood sent three already ordained priests, of whom only Michael von Žamberk is known, to the Waldensian bishop Stephanus, who was hidden in Austria . He ordained these three priests as bishops. Then they returned to Kunwald.

In the same year, at another synod, Bishop Michael von Žamberk consecrated the three men elected at the March Synod, Thomas von Přelouč, Elias von Křenowitz and Matthias von Kunwald, as priests and Matthias von Kunwald as bishop.

Thomas von Přelouč stood on the side of the progressive brother Luke of Prague . From 1494 he belonged to the "Engen Rat", at the same time he held the position of senior of the brother union, which Matthias von Kunwald had given up. After his death in 1500 Thomas von Přelouč succeeded him as one of four bishops. His official seat was in the Moravian Prerau .

Thomas von Přelouč was considered educated and had a good knowledge of Latin. It was not until 1947 that his text Spis o původu Jednoty bratské ao chudých lidech was published by Melantrich Verlag in Prague
