Thomaston is a city in Litchfield County in the US state of Connecticut , United States , with 7,818 inhabitants (as of 2007).
history
Thomaston originally belonged to the Mattatuck Plantation, which was bought by the Tunxis Indians in 1676 . In 1875 the Connecticut Legislature granted Thomaston city status. Thomaston was named after Seth Thomas , who founded a watch factory in the city. In 1979 the watch factory relocated to Norcross, Georgia .

Thomaston is located at the confluence of the Naugatuck River, Northfield Brook and Black Rock Brook. After the severe floods of 1955, three flood protection dams were built, which are maintained by the United States Army Corps of Engineers .

Thomaston Express
The Thomaston Express is a weekly newspaper and the only newspaper from Thomaston. It sells around 1,500 copies a week. The newspaper was founded on June 27, 1873 by George Grilley and is now owned by the Journal Register Company.
