The Thompson Peak is a 980 m high mountain at the Oates Coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It rises 8 km south of Ringgold Knoll at the northwest end of the Wilson Hills .
Aerial photographs taken in 1959 as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE) and those from the US Operation Highjump (1946–1947) were used to map it. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named the mountain on July 22, 1959 after Richard Hugh John Thompson, deputy head of several ANARE campaigns in the 1950s.
