John Eckhardt

John Henrik Wilhelm Eckhardt (* 1974 ) is a German musician ( double bass , electric bass , composition) who has emerged both in the fields of new music and improvisation music.

Live and act

Eckhardt, who grew up in Giessen , began playing as an electric bass player in funk bands during his school days . From 1995 to 1999 he studied classical double bass at the Musikhochschule Lübeck with Jörg Linowitzki and also played on the Hamburg jazz scene . From 2000 to 2002 he completed postgraduate studies with Robert Black in Hartford (Connecticut) in order to acquire a repertoire of new music. He worked with Pierre Boulez and Helmut Lachenmann , the Ensemble Modern , musikFabrik NRW and the Klangforum Wien , but also with the Winsener Ensemble l'art pour l'art . He recorded Theraps by Iannis Xenakis with the Hamburg Ensemble Resonanz under Johannes Kalitzke .

Since 2008 he has been part of the accordionist Eva Zöllner's Slide Show Secret duo , with whom he interprets works of new music. As an improvisation musician, he shared the stage with Peter Brötzmann , Malcolm Goldstein , Marie Goyette , Sebastian Gramss , Erhard Hirt , Evan Parker , Barre Phillips and Elliott Sharp . In 2008 his solo album Xylobiont was released , which has so far been followed by two further releases of improvisations for double bass ( overdubbing ). Eckhardt has also realized several sound installations. He also started his club music project Funksteppa in 2009 , in which he plays the electric bass. Eric Schaefer brought him into his band The Shredz ; He plays in a duo with the jazz guitarist Kalle Kalima .
