The Thompson Point is a headland at the Oates Coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It protrudes as the northwestern extension of the Kavrayskiy Hills in the western part of the mouth of the Rennick Glacier in the Somow Sea .

The United States Geological Survey mapped them based on their own measurements and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1960 to 1962. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1970 after the biologist Max C. Thompson, who was in the frame from 1966 to 1967 of the United States Antarctic Research Program worked at McMurdo Station .
