FC Forward Frankfurt / O.

After becoming eligible to play in the men's division, he first played with the second team of FC Vorwärts in the third-class district league in Frankfurt . With her he became district champion in 1984 and rose to the GDR league . Although officially nominated for the senior league team for the 1984/85 season, the 1.78 m tall Bennert was only used three times as a substitute during this season. He played his first game in the top division of GDR football as a schoolboy on October 27, 1984 in the match of the 9th match day FC Vorwärts - Stahl Brandenburg (1: 1) he was substituted on in the 67th minute. Also in 1985/86 he did not get beyond the role of the substitute player and was either substituted in or out in seven league games. In the meantime he had become a member of the military and held the rank of sergeant. It was not until the 1986/87 season that he was able to establish himself as a regular player in midfield with 23 league appearances. He was also successful in his army career by being promoted to sergeant. In 1987/88 he was able to increase his quota to 25 first division appearances, but at the end of the season FC Vorwärts was determined to be relegated. In the East German league season 1988/89, the army footballers missed the promotion with relay place 3, this only succeeded in 1990. In his two second division years Bennert was able to maintain his regular place with 57 of 68 point games and was one of the most accurate players in his promotion year with ten goals Team. In the meantime, the political change had taken place in the GDR in 1989 , which also had an impact on GDR football. On December 1, 1990 Bennert played his last game as an army footballer in the encounter between FC Berlin (formerly BFC) - FC Vorwärts (1: 1). On February 14, 1991, the army club changed into the civil club FC Viktoria 91 Frankfurt / O. In the 1990/91 season, the last season of the GDR Oberliga, Bennert played 13 games for FC Vorwärts and 10 games for successor club FC Victoria 91. He had a total of 81 league games in which he had scored six goals .

From 1. FC Union Berlin to Holstein Kiel

In the 1990/91 season Frankfurt had the opportunity to qualify for professional football. As the last of the league, however, FC Victoria had to compete in the amateur league in 1991 . Bennert took this as an opportunity to visit Frankfurt / O. to leave and signed a contract with 1. FC Union Berlin , which had qualified for the Amateur Oberliga Nordost via the GDR league . In 1994 Union was the superior season winner, but then had to compete in the new third-class regional league due to license withdrawal . By 1995 Bennert played 109 out of 134 major and regional league games for Union, a total of 134 competitive games with 36 goals.

After Bennert was 3rd in the regional league with Union in 1995, he joined FC Carl Zeiss Jena for two years , which had been promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. In Jena he was only a supplementary player, played only four point games over 90 minutes and was only in the starting line-up 17 times. In the two seasons 1995/96 and 1996/97 he was used as a midfielder in 42 points games (3 goals) and in a cup game. Bennert then went back to the regional league and played for Eintracht Braunschweig for two more years . There he was used from 1996 to 1998 in 43 of 68 league games and scored eight goals. In the 1999/2000 season, the now 34-year-old Bennert played for the regional league team Holstein Kiel , where he was used in 18 of 34 point games.

In the summer of 2000 Bennert ended his career as a competitive athlete. He settled in the Magdeburg Börde and became a player-coach at TSV Völpke in the Association League Saxony-Anhalt . In 2004 he led his team to win the state cup and in 2006 to the state championship and promotion to the amateur league. In the same year he finally ended his career as a football player, but remained active as a coach at TSV Völpke until 2013.
