Thorleif Aamodt (born June 12, 1909 in Arna, Bergen , † October 25, 2003 in Bergen) was a Norwegian organist and composer . His arrangements for choir are well known.

Life

Thorleif Aamodt was the son of Olaf Karl Martin Aamodt (born June 24, 1867) and his wife Ragna Josephine (born December 30, 1873). His eldest brother Valter Aamodt was also a musician. During two study visits to England he was a student of the English composer and organist Harold Darke (1888–1976). From 1927 to 1937 Aamodt was the organist in Laksevåg, Bergen and from 1937 to 1948 in Sandvik Church in Bergen. In 1947 he made a choir trip to England with the church choir there. From 1948 to 1980 he was organist at the Johanneskirche in Bergen. In the 1930s, concerts with Thorleif Aamodt on the organ as a soloist and choir accompanist in the Oslo Kringkasting [Oslo Radio] were broadcast from the Oslo Cathedral , among others . He played a major role in spreading English organ music in Norway. On January 14, 1937, he was the first organist to perform English organ music on a Norwegian radio broadcast and wrote various articles on English organ music for the organ of the Norwegian Organists' Association. In 1967 he began a concert series with international organ concerts in the Johanneskirche; this series of events still exists today. Aamodt conducted the community choir Sandviken and the chamber choir In Nomine.
