Thymus spinulosus is a plant type from the genus of thyme ( Thymus ) in the family of Labiatae .

description

Thymus spinulosus is a small shrub whose ascending stems grow from a woody base and are hairy all around. Creeping stems are absent or there are only a few short ones. The leaves are 9 to 12 mm long and 1.5 to 2.5 mm wide. They are herbaceous, greenish, lanceolate, almost pointed, often sparsely hairy with bristles on the upper side. The midrib is clearly visible, the side veins are rather inconspicuous.

The inflorescences are head-shaped. The bracts have inconspicuous side veins, are herbaceous and greenish, the lower ones resemble the foliage leaves, the upper ones are about 7 mm long and 3 mm wide and more or less egg-shaped. The calyx is 3.5 to 5 mm long, greenish and densely reddish glandular. The upper teeth are up to 1.2 cm long, lanceolate and ciliate. The crown is whitish.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 56.

Occurrence and locations

The species occurs in the mountains of southern Italy and Sicily .
