In 1807 Giuseppe Bonaparte entrusted him with the supervision of the royal gardens in the Kingdom of Naples. Tenore was appointed Senator of Italy under King Vittorio Emanuele II. In 1812 he was accepted as a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences .

The Botanical Garden in Naples , which opened in 1810, was created with his help . From 1811 he had a chair in botany at the University of Naples . In 1835 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .
