The ThyssenKrupp Presta AG is a company of ThyssenKrupp -Konzerns and is the holding company for the business thyssenkrupp Steering . The company is an automotive supplier with headquarters in Eschen in Liechtenstein . It is one of the world's most successful manufacturers of steering systems and is a technology leader in the field of massive forming .
history
The ammunition factory Press- und Stanzwerk AG (Presta) was built in 1941 during the Second World War on behalf of the industrialist Emil Georg Bührle and the arms dealer Rudolf Ruscheweyh in Eschen. Important factors for this decision included the stable power supply from the Vorarlberg power plants , the cheap labor that was still available in Liechtenstein and the fact that no war profit tax was levied in the principality. Founder and first director was the trustee Max Held. He also managed the assets of Ruscheweyh. The industrial company , which quickly grew to over 300 employees, produced ammunition components , which from spring 1942 were supplied indirectly via Oerlikon-Bührle , primarily to the Nazi state . After large sales of bullet casings continued to be achieved during the Korean War of 1950-53, arms production was less and less profitable and was discontinued in 1980.
Presta AG was sold to the Krupp Group in 1991 and renamed ThyssenKrupp Presta AG after its merger with Thyssen AG in 1999. Steering systems, high-precision solid forged parts, assembled camshafts and valve train systems were manufactured. Camshafts have also been manufactured in Chemnitz since July 2006 and in 2007 the camshafts division was spun off into Thyssenkrupp Camshafts based in Ilsenburg . The steering systems division, based in Eschen, was renamed Thyssenkrupp Steering and also includes toolmaking for the cold forging of components in drive trains and for steering systems in Oberegg with 200 employees. Thyssenkrupp Presta AG remains the lead company for the Steering division. In Liechtenstein, around 2300 of the more than 8000 employees worldwide were employed in the steering sector at nine locations in 2018.

Products and technology
Cold forging
Cold forging as a branch of massive forging is a collective term for various processes such as cold extrusion and upsetting, in which wire or bar material is formed into ready-to-install components. Forged components have a high energy and material efficiency, are high temperature and acid resistant and recyclable. ThyssenKrupp Steering has its own basic development and toolmaking department.
Steering columns
Steering columns are usually designed as rod-shaped or tubular supports, which are connected at the upper end to the steering wheel and transfer its movements to the steering linkage of the vehicle wheels. The steering column is located in front of the driver's seat in the direction of travel and runs diagonally from the position of the steering wheel down to the steering linkage. Safety aspects must therefore be considered in the event of an accident. ThyssenKrupp Steering offers both rigid and mechanically or electrically height and length adjustable steering columns.
Steering gear
The steering gear converts the turning movement of the steering wheel into a sliding movement of the tie rods . ThyssenKrupp Steering manufactures hydraulically (HPS) and electrically (EPS) powered power steering systems.
