Tiana Alexandra (also Tiana Alexandra-Silliphant , Tiana Thi Thanh Nga , Tiana Banana or just Tiana ; * allegedly August 11, 1961 as Thi Thanh Nga in Saigon , South Vietnam ) is a Vietnamese - American actress , film director and film producer .

Life

In 1966 she came to the United States as the daughter of an important South Vietnamese government family , where she also completed her school education. After she graduated from high school at the age of 15, she moved to Hollywood , where she hoped for a steep career as an actress. She is considered to be the only woman who was personally trained and trained in martial arts by Bruce Lee. Other reports ignore this fact, however, as Alexandra would have been a child at the time and Bruce Lee died in 1973 when Alexandra was just twelve years old. Her first essential film role was when she was still young, when she took on a supporting role in the film The Killer Elite . Still in adolescence, she played a major role in the three-part mini-series Pearl (also known as Pearl Harbor ) in 1978 . After a few years without significant engagement, she took on a leading role in the film Fly Away Home , where she was seen alongside the great actor Bruce Boxleitner . Among other things, she was already active in various low-budget karate films during this time, but could not celebrate any significant success with the films. This was followed by a few more years without well-known productions before she returned to the screen in 1987 when she played the female counterpart to Bruce Lee in Catch the Heat and in the same year alongside Jane Kaczmarek , Art LaFleur and Tori Spelling was seen in The Three Kings . In 1992 she directed the film From Hollywood to Hanoi . The film was nominated at the Sundance Film Festival in 1993 for the "Grand Jury Prize" in the category: Documentation , but could not win. In 2011 she worked as an associate producer on the film A Dark Desire .

Tiana Alexandra was married to screenwriter Stirling Silliphant from 1974 until his death in 1996 .
