Tiger duck
The tiger duck is a popular figure of the draftsman and artist Janosch , although not a main character. It had its first appearance in the children's book Oh How Beautiful is Panama , published on March 15, 1978. The tiger duck is a toy made of wood that rolls on wheels and is pulled on a string. It is shaped like a duck and has a tiger-like stripe pattern. She accompanies Janosch's other characters - the Little Tiger (who pulls her behind him), Günter Kastenfrosch and the Little Bear - in most of their activities .

Tiger duck race
The charity event Tiger Duck Race takes place annually at the end of May in Kassel in the area of the wire bridge on the Fulda . For a participation fee, one or more swimming tiger ducks can be "adopted". Up to 12,000 numbered ducks then take part in the race on the Fulda. The ducks that the Fulda flushes through the finish line first win donated material prizes. The adoption fees come from Soziale Hilfe e. V. in Kassel, which uses the money for the homeless and other projects. The race is accompanied by an extensive supporting program on the bank and has around 8,000 spectators annually.

The tiger duck is originally an idea of the artist FK Waechter , which Janosch, depending on the interview, “borrowed” or “stole” from him. Janosch, whose work comprises well over 150 books, considers it "very annoying that his artistic work is reduced to this figure".

The tiger duck is the leading actress in the film Oh, how beautiful is Panama . Due to its popularity since the early 1990s, kindergartens also named themselves after her, e.g. B. in Barig-Selbenhausen and in Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn .
