The theme park has over 20 film-specific attractions, four shows, a 4D and XD cinema, original sets and exhibition areas on film and the film trade. The film park is part of the media city Babelsberg and is located directly next to the Babelsberg film studio , the oldest large-scale film studio in the world and the largest film studio complex in Europe, in which, since 1912, under the names Deutsche Bioskop , Ufa , DEFA and now Studio Babelsberg, more than 3000 cinema and TV films were made.

history

After the reunification , a "film and TV experience" was opened on the Babelsberg studio site in 1991. First of all, typical film workplaces, parts of the prop stock and some exterior decorations were shown to bring the visitors closer to the film world, German film history with the focus on the Babelsberg location and cinematic handicrafts and tricks. In 1993, based on theme parks such as Universal Studios Hollywood, the studio tour and the first stunt show started . Flimmy the film park mascot was created in 1996. In 1998 , the children's park "Panama" was added with Janosch's participation . After the successful children's book by Janosch Oh, how beautiful Panama is , a small world was created with the legendary journey of tigers and bears in search of Panama. In 1998, the original props from the movie Prinz Eisenherz (1997) turned into the adventure restaurant of the same name with events from the time of princes, knights and maids. In 1999 the 15 m high volcano arena was built for the stunt show. There, 2,500 visitors can experience the daily live stunt show under the open sky in roofed areas in almost any weather. In the anniversary year 2011, the Blue Ball moved from Berlin's Breitscheidplatz to the Filmpark with the Dome of Babelsberg, an integrated XD adventure theater. In 2012, the making-of show The Three Musketeers in 3D for the film, shot entirely in Babelsberg, opened, the sets of which can be viewed in the Filmpark. Since 2017, as part of the so-called backlot tour, the original exterior set “Lummerland” by Jim Knopf and Lukas the locomotive driver can be viewed before the cinema release .
