Barig-Selbenhausen is a district of the municipality of Merenberg in the Limburg-Weilburg district in Central Hesse . The next middle center is Weilburg .

Geographical location

Barig-Selbenhausen is located in the Westerwald about 1.5 km (as the crow flies ) north-northeast of the Merenberg town center. The Kallenbach tributary Vöhlerbach flows through it . In the north of the village, the Almerskopf ( 336.4  m ) rises with the Almerskopf Wallburg from the La Tène period ; Remains of ramparts can be found on the mountains Hohburg ( 395.5  m ), Roter Kopf ( 391  m ) and Hinterster Kopf ( 382.7  m ), which rise south of the brook valley.

history

The district "Barig" was first mentioned in a document in 1385. The district “Selbenhausen” was first documented with certainty in 1326.

On December 31, 1971 , as part of the regional reform in Hesse, the previously independent communities of Allendorf , Barig-Selbenhausen, Merenberg, Reichenborn and Rückershausen voluntarily merged into the new large community of Merenberg .

Public facilities

In Barig-Selbenhausen, the Barig-Selbenhausen volunteer fire brigade , founded in 1925 (since July 7, 1990 with its youth fire brigade ), provides fire protection and general help. The Tigerente kindergarten is on Schulstrasse.

Freetime activities

TuS Barig-Selbenhausen offers table tennis, gymnastics and dance. There is a village community center on Schulstrasse, a sports field, children's playgrounds and hiking trails.
