) is the third largest district in the municipality ofGeographical location
Allendorf is one kilometer southeast of Merenberg in Central Hesse . The federal highway 49 runs on the northern outskirts.
history
The village was first mentioned in 1289, when Count Gerlach von Diez gave the Diezer Stift patronage.
On December 31, 1971 , as part of the regional reform in Hesse, the previously independent communities of Allendorf, Barig-Selbenhausen , Merenberg, Reichenborn and Rückershausen voluntarily merged to form the new large community of Merenberg .
Allendorf Castle
There was a castle near the place, possibly on the area of today's cemetery. This fortification was probably built at the end of the 13th century at the earliest. In 1362, Kuno II von Falkenstein, in his role as coadjutor of the Archbishopric Trier, destroyed the castle at the head of a military campaign in the Electorate of Limburg. The background to this was the close connection between the von Allendorf family and the House of Nassau , which had competed with Kurtrier for centuries .
