Tijani Chelli ( Arabic التيجاني الشلي, DMG at-Tīǧānī aš-Šallī ; * March 23, 1931 in Nabeul ) is a former Tunisian politician of the Socialist Destur Party who was a minister several times.

Life

Tijani Chelli attended the Collège Sadiki in Tunis and then studied engineering at the École polytechnique . On his return he began his professional career as an engineer in the field office of the Ministry of Public Works in El Kef in 1959 and soon afterwards became the Ministry's deputy chief engineer for bridges and highways. Subsequently, he took over the post of head of the transport department in 1961 and in 1962 as head of the department for shipping and civil aviation of the Ministry of Public Works. In August 1965 he was appointed general manager of the national railway company Société nationale des chemins de fer tunisiens (SNCFT). In September 1967 he moved to the Ministry of Planning and National Economy as head of the industrial department and then in January 1969 became general director of the chemical company Industries chimiques du Maghreb (ICM).

On November 7, 1969, Chelli was Minister for Public Works (Minstre des Travaux publics) in the Ladgham cabinet and from June 12, 1970: Minister for Public Works and Communications (Minstre des Travaux publics et Communications) . In the following cabinet Nouira he took over on January 2, 1970 the office of Minister for National Economy (Minstre de l'Économie nationale) , which he kept until a government reshuffle on March 22, 1972 and was then replaced by Chedli Ayari . After leaving the cabinet, he became director of the Agency for Economic Development, which later became the Agency for the Promotion of Foreign Investment. He later withdrew from political life and worked as a private entrepreneur.

Tijani Chelli took over the post of Minister of Education (Ministre de l'Éducation) in the Baccouche cabinet on November 7, 1987 , which he held until he was replaced by Mohamed Hédi Khélil in the course of a cabinet reshuffle on April 11, 1988. He was also Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research (Ministre de l'Enseignement supérieur et de la Recherche scientifique) in the Baccouche cabinet from November 7, 1987 until his replacement by Abdessalem Mseddi on April 11, 1988 . On February 27, 1988 he joined the newly founded constitutional democratic collection RCD (Rassemblement constitutionnel démocratique) by Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali .
