Howard Broun

Howard Broun (* 1947 or 1948 ) is a former New Zealand squash and tennis player .

Career

Howard Broun was active as a squash and tennis player in the 1970s and 1980s and was a national leader in both sports: in tennis, he was a member of the New Zealand Davis Cup team alongside Onny Parun and Brian Fairlie , but stayed without use in the Davis Cup . In 1967 he was part of the official squad in the game against Mexico .

With the New Zealand national squash team, he took part in the world championships in 1976 and 1977 . In 1977 he was runner- up with the team behind Pakistan . A year earlier he had won the New Zealand national championships and was also ranked first nationally. In 1979 and 1981 he was in the main draw of the individual world championships, but both times did not get past the first round. At the New Zealand Open he reached the final, in which he was defeated by Bruce Brownlee .

Broun moved to Calgary , Canada during his career to work as a coach. He took over a squash club there, which he sold again in 1993. During this time he was Jonathon Power's first trainer .
