New Zealand Squash Championships

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The New Zealand Squash Championships are a competition to determine the national championship title in squash in New Zealand .

history

Since 1932 the championships for men and since 1951 for women have been held annually. Between 1940 and 1945, the event was suspended due to the Second World War . Record holders are Paul Steel for men and Susan Devoy for women with ten titles each. Both managed to win all titles in a row: Devoy secured their championships from 1983 to 1992, Steel from 1992 to 2001. From the 1950s to the 1980s even players without a New Zealand passport could take part in the championship. Players from other countries won the tournament seven times for the men and four times for the women.
