Tijn Kortmann

Constantinus Albertus Josephus Maria "Tijn" Kortmann (born March 14, 1944 in Groesbeek ; † January 24, 2016 ) was a Dutch lawyer and constitutional lawyer.

Life

Kortmann studied civil law at the Radboud University Nijmegen , as well as French and French law at the Institut Catholique de Paris and the University of Poitiers . In 1971 he received his doctorate from RU Nijmegen.

From 1976 to 1981 Kortmann was professor for Dutch and comparative constitutional law at the University of Amsterdam , from 1981 professor for constitutional law and general political theory at the RU Nijmegen. In 2004 he was appointed Academy Professor by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences . He retired in February 2009. In total he was dean of a law school three times: once in Amsterdam and twice in Nijmegen. Kortmann has published various works on constitutional and administrative law in Europe.

In 2005 he was appointed chairman of the referendum commission by the Dutch parliament , which dealt with the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe . In 2009 Kortmann was made a knight in the Order of the Dutch Lion .

Kortmann's brother Bas Kortmann is a former rector magnificus and professor of civil law at Radboud University Nijmegen ; his brother Yvo Kortmann is a politician.
