Tilemann Backhaus

Tilemann Backhaus (also: Backhusius ; * July 27, 1624 in Pötewitz ; † July 20, 1666 in Leipzig ) was a German educator.

Life

The son of the cantor and vicar at Zeitz Cathedral Tilemann Backhusius and Maria († 1627), daughter of the schoolmaster in Pötewitz Romanus Kittel, was initially trained by his father. On December 14, 1639, the superintendent Erhard Lauterbach (1570–1649) ensured that he was accepted into the Zeitz collegiate school . In 1646 he moved to the University of Leipzig , where he began studying with Hieronymus Kromayer . In 1648 he was awarded a bachelor's degree and in 1650 a master's degree in philosophy.

From 1651 to 1653 he had trained the children of Johann Benedikt Carpzov I as a private tutor . On July 28, 1653 he became a teacher at the St. Nicolaischule in Leipzig and in 1659 was a private tutor with Johann Hülsemann . On May 30, 1659, he became vice rector of the St. Nicholas School and 1663 vice rector of the Leipzig Thomas School . However, in poor health he died at the age of forty-two.

On August 18, 1663 he married Dorothea Christiana, the daughter of the pastor in Halle Benedikt Ludewiger. The marriage resulted in a son who was stillborn on December 23, 1664.
