The inner beauty of the universe (OT: Till det som är vackert) is a Swedish film drama directed by Lisa Langseth from 2010. The film is about a relationship drama against the background of a young woman's love for classical music .

action

The 20-year-old Katarina, who loves Mozart's music , lives in difficult social circumstances. Your mother is an alcoholic. She lives with her good-natured friend Mattias, who takes care of her and accompanies her to a classical concert because of her. Otherwise the two protagonists have no common interests. After a fight with children, Katarina loses her job at a school.

Wandering aimlessly, she leads her way to the city concert hall. There she is mistaken for a job seeker; after making up a melodramatic story about her mother, she gets a job as a receptionist. She pretends to be the daughter of an aspiring Australian concert pianist who tragically died of cancer. Katarina wins the sympathy of her work colleagues and is fascinated by the 'new world' in the field of classical music. In the process, she becomes increasingly alienated from her boyfriend and mother. Katarina will soon get a new position with more responsibility in the youth care of the concert hall. She also gets to know a conductor of the Konzerthaus, Adam, who is much older than her and has a family. In the ranking of the Konzerthaus he is far above Katarina, but he is interested in her because, as the orphan of a concert pianist , she is surrounded by a mysterious aura. Katarina's lie is quickly exposed, but Adam remains interested. He gives her a book by Ekelöf and impresses her with his knowledge of philosophy. Finally, they get involved in an affair.

Katarina is happy and already thinks she has found her place in life, but the house of cards collapses. When her mother provokes her, Katarina beats her. Her mother then makes a suicide attempt. Mattias discovers her affair with Adam and leaves her disappointed. When Adam's wife again becomes suspicious, he ends the relationship with Katarina.

Katarina tries in vain to maintain the relationship with Adam. She refuses to accept his rejection and makes arrangements to stalk him , which ultimately leads to his having her dismissal in the concert hall. The situation escalates when Katarina refuses to leave her workplace and is shown at the door by security staff. However, she stubbornly holds on to Adam. One evening when he is conducting a concert, she sneaks into his office and waits for him. She just wants her job back, but Adam, who is now in divorce, is verbally aggressive. He humiliates Katarina by letting her dance for him, mocking and insulting her. Katarina then pushes him out of the window - Adam dies, musically accompanied by Mozart's Requiem. Katarina can escape unmolested. Nobody saw them.

She visits her mother again in the hospital. Katarina starts a new life and gets the new job in the youth care department of the concert hall. In the last scene of the film you can see her smiling in the audience in the concert hall.

Scenic details

Mozart's Requiem and the second movement of Beethoven's 7th Symphony are played several times as background music. Whether this background music is related to the content or is only intended to reinforce the tragic story emotionally is not discussed and remains unclear.
