Gunnar Ekelöf
Bengt Gunnar Ekelöf ( pronunciation : [ ˌgɵnːaɹ ˈeːkəløːv ], born September 15, 1907 in Stockholm , † March 16, 1968 in Sigtuna ) was a Swedish writer .
life and work
Ekelöf is counted among the most important Swedish poets of the 20th century. He is sometimes described as the most radical among the poets of the Swedish-speaking modern age. Elements of symbolism and surrealism can be found in his work . In the beginning, he was particularly influenced by French surrealism and the music of Igor Stravinsky . He later developed clearer, more intellectual forms of expression under the impression of Lao-Tse . The late works of the 1960s (the Diwandichtung) take place in the Byzantium of the Middle Ages.
Ekelöf also worked as an art and literary critic. From 1958 he was a member of the Swedish Academy .
