Klaus-Jürgen Liedtke

Klaus-Jürgen Liedtke (born December 11, 1950 in Enge , North Friesland ) is a German writer and translator .

Life

Klaus-Jürgen Liedtke put 1970 his matriculation examination in Bielefeld , and studied then the subjects Scandinavian , German and American studies at universities in Kiel , Uppsala , Berlin and Turku . Since 1974 he has lived in Berlin as a freelance writer and translator .

Klaus-Jürgen Liedtke mainly works as a translator from Swedish . He was particularly prominent as a translator of Gunnar Ekelöf's lyric works . In addition, Liedtke publishes his own literary works and acts as the editor of literary anthologies as well as the virtual Baltic Sea Library.

Klaus-Jürgen Liedtke is a member of the PEN Center Germany and of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works , VdÜ. He helped set up the Baltic Center for Writers and Translators in Visby, Sweden, and was Chairman of the Baltic Writers Council from 2005 to 2009 and of the Three Seas Writers 'and Translators' Council from 2001 to 2007 . In addition to numerous scholarships, Liedtke received the following awards: in 1992 a prize from the Swedish Writer's Fund , in 1993 the "Natur-och-Kultur" translation prize from the Swedish Academy , in 2004 the Translation Prize from the Swedish Academy, in 2005 the Paul Celan Prize and in 2008 the Federal Cross of Merit . In 2014 he was awarded the Gerard Bonnier Prize endowed with 200,000 Swedish kronor . In 2016 he received the Mikael Lybeck Prize from the Finland-Swedish Writers' Union.
