Karl August Tavaststjerna
Karl August Tavaststjerna (born May 13, 1860 in Annila near Mikkeli ; † March 20, 1898 in Björneborg / Pori ) was a Finnish writer who spoke the Swedish language .
Life
Tavaststjerna was the son of a respected old family of officers. His place of birth was the family estate. He studied architecture and initially worked as an architect. In 1883 he made his debut with the volume of poetry För morgonbris ( With the morning breeze ). Numerous novels, dramas, short stories and poetry volumes followed. From 1895 until his death in 1898 he worked as a newspaper editor.
His work was influenced by August Strindberg , with whom he met in Berlin, and Alexander Kielland . Tavaststjerna is one of the most important representatives of Swedish literature in Finland at the end of the 19th century.
He died of pneumonia on March 20, 1898 in the small town of Björneborg / Pori , where he had lived since 1896.
