Tilmann Bechert

Tilmann Bechert (born January 24, 1939 in Berlin ) is a German provincial Roman archaeologist and historian.

Tilmann Bechert studied history and archeology of the Roman provinces at the University of Heidelberg . In 1968 Bechert was appointed to the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Frankfurt a. M. to Dr. phil. PhD. His excavations and investigations in Moers- Asberg / Asciburgium , which he carried out from the late 1960s to the early 1980s as an employee of the Lower Rhine Museum of the City of Duisburg , were trend-setting . In particular, he succeeded in finding traces of a military camp from the early days of the Roman occupation. From 1994 to 2003 he headed the Duisburg city ​​archeology. He founded the series of publications "Finds from Asciburgium", which the city of Duisburg is now continuing to publish.
